Sync folders

Keep a remote directory aligned with a local one and stop moving the same files by hand.

If you move the same batch of files between two machines every day, a sync folder beats repeated manual transfers.

Setting up sync

Choose a remote and a local directory in the file transfer view, then set the direction (two-way or one-way) and how sync is triggered.

  • Pick local and remote directories
  • Two-way or one-way sync
  • Automatic or manual trigger
  • Exclude certain file types

Conflict handling

Editing the same file on both sides creates conflicts. Agree who edits what, or keep both versions and merge by hand.

  • Avoid editing the same file on both sides
  • Keep copies and merge manually on conflict
  • Choose by modification time
  • Back up important directories first

Performance and capacity

Syncing constantly uses bandwidth and disk space. Sync only what is needed and exclude large or temporary files.

  • Sync only necessary directories
  • Exclude caches and temporary files
  • Watch local free space
  • Run syncs off-peak

FAQ

Does syncing slow down remote desktop?

It shares bandwidth. Sync while precision is not needed, or cap the sync rate.

Why were some files skipped?

Check exclusion rules and whether files are locked; files held open by a program sync only once released.
