Security and privacy

Encryption, permission control and data boundaries, plus hardening you can do yourself.

Remote control means handing over part of a device, so security comes first. This page explains how data travels and is stored, and what you can lock down.

Transport and storage

Connections and picture data travel through encrypted channels and sensitive configuration is stored encrypted. Even when relayed, relay nodes cannot decrypt session content.

  • Encrypted end to end
  • Relay nodes cannot read session content
  • Access codes are never stored in plain text
  • Adjustable session encryption on some editions

Hardening you control

Enable two-factor authentication, give every device its own access code, switch off capabilities you do not need, and review devices and members regularly.

  • Enable 2FA on the account
  • A separate access code per device
  • Turn off file transfer and command line where unused
  • Review devices and authorised members periodically

Boundaries of use

Never access devices you do not own or are not authorised to use. Before enabling recording and auditing at work, complete the notification and compliance steps.

  • Only reach devices you own or are authorised for
  • Inform people before recording and auditing
  • Be careful with cameras in sensitive places
  • Confirm the session ended

FAQ

Does my screen go through a server?

When direct connection fails, traffic passes through encrypted relays, but relays only forward ciphertext and cannot reconstruct the picture.

Are files on the device uploaded?

Not automatically. Data moves only when you start a transfer or sync yourself.
